2006 Summer Improvements

The upstairs shack was starting to get a little "busy." The wiring and cable inputs behind the radios were chaos, with no clear-cut system of identifying them or following their routes out of the shack. In addition, there was way too much weight pulling down on the band decoder control boxes, so a lighter cable was needed. Finally, the computer system needed to be straightened out. I only use this position for single operator, since it is rather small. It is a lot more comfortable (and easy to use) than the chamber when it is just me, though.

We didn't take too many pictures, but the ones we did take show the shack torn apart and being straightened out. Captions beneath the photos. Click on each photo to view it larger.

Out comes the monitor. Note the vast amount of random cables without any rhym or reason.

The view behind the right radio, band decoder boxes, antenna control heads, etc. etc. etc. "Smothering" is the word.

DVP and other computer cables. These especially need to be labelled.

Alright, pull the computer down. All of those cables get labelled, plugged back in, then (like brain surgury) make sure the computer still works before putting the lid back on.

Mission accomplished! The finished upstairs-shack freshly re-vamped, re-labelled, and ready for the next single-op event.
