2007 Summer Improvements

2007 saw the elimination of the fabled "upstairs shack." The shack was built into a closet with poor acoustics. I used it as my personal shack, or for some single-op entries. Most of the heavy-duty contesting happened from down in "the chamber" anyway. I realized that most of my operation happened during contests anyway, so I should focus on making the chamber more "live-able" and just play radio 100% of the time from down there. It isn't quite as comfortable down there, but re-routing the antennas between the upstairs and downstairs was a hassle.

The entire legacy of "the chamber" is told in the station notebook.

The upstairs shack has since become a closet for dishes, linens, and such. The move down to the chamber full-time was an easy one. The only gear that fluxuated between the upstairs and the downstairs were the radios. Control heads for the band decoders, most of the switchers, and filters were duplicates in each shack so I didn't have to move those every time. All I did was remove the aforementioned items from the upstairs shack and put them on a shelf, relegating them to full-time extras. The computer system down in the chamber was getting antiquated, so I planned to re-do that as well. Unfortunately, the season started before I had any time, and put it off until 2008.
