The official QTH of K1KAA/KB1FWM is Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. Feeding Hills is a section of the town of Agawam, Massachusetts (town website). This section contains a good deal of farmland and the highest point in town, Provin Mountain. Don't worry, even the summit isn't very high, and it only blocks Alaska or the far western part of Canada. The physical location of the station here is near the eastern border of Feeding Hills, where it touches Agawam. We are also fairly close to a neighboring town, West Springfield.
The station here is in a good spot for radio work. Next door is WB1HAB, and behind the lot is another ham. In fact, the ham population in this neighborhood is so high, it was chosen as the host location for the first BPL test-site in New England. We are on a corner lot, and you can see antennas and coax and such from the two largest roads in the section (Mill St. and Springfield St.). Across the road from us is a large empty field where a car dealership used to be. This part of Wester Massachusetts is a haven for the low bands, and despite a relatively low elevation, the water content in the ground is extremely high. 40, 80, and 160m rejoice!
Agawam is a suburb of Springfield, Massachusetts, which is home to the Basketball Hall of Fame, Falcons Hockey, and the historic Springfield Armory. In neighboring West Springfield, the largest fair in New England - the Eastern States Exposition, or "Big E" - is held every year in the fall. As for Agawam, we are the first zip code in the country (01001) and the home of Anne Sullivan and General Creighton Abrams (namesake of the Abram's Tank). Our high school is also the largest one-floor school in the state.
